Use Connection Doctor to Diagnose Mac OS X Mail problems

This article will go over diagnosing email connection problems with the connection doctor within Mail.

  1. Open Mail.
  2. Navigate to Window > Connection Doctor.
  3. A window will open with a list of the SMTP and POP servers for all accounts in Mail.
  4. A green dot next to the server means the connection succeeded without issue. A red dot means the connection failed and there is a problem with the server or your local settings. Click the Show Detail button (a slider will slide out) and then click Check Again and you will see the logging for the connection.

If there is a red dot next to the server, please make sure your settings are correct following: How do I configure Mac OS X Mail for my Email Accounts?
