5.2 Earthquake in Midwest Has No Impact on Hosting.com Data Center

April 18, 2008 – (Louisville, KY) Hosting.com management is pleased to report that there was no effect on the Louisville, KY datacenter after a 5.2 earthquake rocked the Midwest at 4:37 a.m. CDT Friday morning, April 18th. Originating a relatively close 153 miles away in West Salem, Ill, the quake shook the Louisville area, and was reported to be felt as far out as Atlanta and Michigan as well. Although initially thought to be caused by the Madrid Fault, evidence now suggests the quake was a result of the Wabash Fault.

Hosting.com’s facility remained fully operational and online throughout the duration of this event. The facility did not require generators to maintain power during or after the quake. Designed to withstand seismic activity of this level, the datacenters infrastructure behaved as expected. There was no release of any hazardous materials within the datacenter. Per Louisville Gas & Electric Company (LG&E), there has been no earthquake related damage in relation to electricity, or gas.

"Hosting.com’s datacenter is prepared for disaster with redundant power, cooling, and network capability of shifting critical data to our other datacenters at high speeds. However, the earthquake that occurred didn’t require any emergency response. Our 24x7 onsite staff quickly evaluated the entire datacenter immediately after the quake and reported no damage, and no loss of service to any of our customers." stated Darren King, Hosting.com’s President & CEO.

Hosting.com management intends to closely monitor datacenter infrastructure to make sure that all of our customers are protected from unpredictable natural phenomena such as earthquakes.
