Hosting.com goes Climate Neutral in San Francisco
February 6, 2008 (San Francisco, CA) – Hosting.com, Inc. today announced that its San Francisco data center is now climate neutral. Hosting.com is projecting that the amount of carbon it will be neutralizing in San Francisco is the equivalent of not burning 260,000 gallons of gasoline a year.
"One of our major corporate responsibility initiatives for 2008 is environmentally friendly energy use" stated Darren King, Hosting.com President and CEO. “We believe all companies have an obligation to protect our environment with proactive measures today rather than sitting around and debating whether global warming has or has not happened. Green power is readily available today, and large power consumers like data center providers owe it to themselves and future generations to explore these opportunities to make positive change.”
In addition to pursuing green initiatives in Hosting.com’s data centers through the use of green power, energy efficient data center design, and enterprise virtualization solutions, Hosting.com pays for climate neutrality for the homes of all of its employees.
Data centers in the United States utilize between 1% and 2% of all power consumption, and some experts believe that this percentage will rise dramatically in the future with the growing number of data centers due to the expansion of the Internet as a means to delivering content, software and services. Given the relatively small number of data center in the country and their large power consumption requirements, Hosting.com is urging legislators and business leaders to evaluate energy consumption sources for data centers and implement some of the easy, practical steps that are available today to reduce carbon emissions.
Hosting.com’s San Francisco facility is located in downtown San Francisco, just a few blocks from AT&T Park. This state-of-the-art data center offers managed colocation hosting solutions as well as additional redundancy, disaster recovery, and business continuance solutions to Hosting.com’s global customer base.
